There's a really excellent article (actually a series of chapters from an upcoming book) titled The Immanence of Myth that does an excellent job of exploring the connections between what we think we already know, and how we know it and all those other assumptions that we never bother examining because they're just too damn obvious. All those 'givens' that are never even noticed until we bump into someone whose givens aren't the same as ours. And sometimes not even then. The Myths we live by, and what that means...
