May. 7th, 2008 @ 08:33 am I weeble and I wobble
Current Mood: exhausted

but I have not yet fallen down.

That's what happens when all I eat for dinner is a small plate of tabouleh and I've cranked up my activity about 200%. Serious lack of energy.

I also had my first bike accident, as bit-blogged on Twitter. A kid on another bike t-boned my back tire. Actually, my back basket. My bike and I managed to remain upright and moving forward, but the kid that hit me didn't. He seemed okay, though, when I stopped to check. Even his glasses seemed to be fine - no breaks or scratches. OTOH, since I was pretty solidly in the intersection (and on my way out) when he hit me, he probably needs an upgrade on his prescription.

I just read the New Scientist article on how carbon and sulphate particulates have caused global cooling and counteracted some of the effects of global warming. It's very interesting, and significant, and was discussed about two years ago on Nova.

The effect is known as Global Dimming because the particulates extend the life of clouds (look to the article for an explanation how that works), which 'dims' the sun in certain areas. The scientist who did the study covered by Nova suspects that it was an important element in the severe droughts in Ethiopia in the 80's.
